Preparing for Packing Your Bathroom

Before you start packing, it is important to make some kind of plan, and East Coast West Coast Express wants to help you with that. Organization is the key, especially when you are packing up everything from your favorite room at home – the bathroom. Here are some steps you should take to make sure that you properly pack all the items in your bathroom for cross country relocation:

  1. Set aside all the products you use – If you are constantly using a product and you need it, there is no need to throw it away. What is important is to determine what you actually need from what you don’t.
  2. Throw away anything you don’t use or actually need – This also includes all the empty products. Don’t hold on to anything that doesn’t have any use to you.
  3. Make sure that you don’t take anything you don’t need to – What we mean by this is all the unnecessary products that will just take space and are easily replaceable, like toilet paper, shampoo and shower gel (unless you use a specific one that is expensive or hard to find), cleaning supplies and similar.
  4. Prepare everything and set it in one place before you start with packing.

Tips on Packing Toiletries and Medication

Just because the smallest room in your house is the bathroom doesn’t mean that it is the easiest to pack. It’s a part of the house where we tend to collect things and has a lot of places where we can hide them. We probably store more stuff in the bathroom that we do anywhere else in the house. Usually, we only see how much we have there when we pack of clean it out. Here are some tips and tricks on how you can organize everything when you are packing for your cross country relocation:

Get The Proper Packing Materials

Unlike other areas in your house, you are going to need plastic bags and other materials to make sure that your bag doesn’t break along with the usual moving boxes, packing tape, and other packing materials.

Packing medication

Begin by sorting through your cupboards, drawers and medication chests for any medication bottles, jars or tubes. Place them aside. If you are like most of us, then you have a collection of pill bottles or medications that you have forgotten about. You will have to go through this one by one carefully to see which ones should be kept and which ones should be gotten rid of. You shouldn’t keep medications if they are past their expiration date, you can’t read the label, if there isn’t a label at all, the color, consistency, appearance or smell has changed, the medication causes side effects it didn’t cause before, and if the medication doesn’t appear to work.

If you need to dispose of medications, don’t flush them down the toilet or empty the contents into the drain as medications cause damage to the environment and contamination as chemical treatments don’t remove the contents entirely. Decide which medications you will keep and determine which ones are critical. Critical medications are those that are sensitive to heat or cold and should be packed into your essentials box. The rest should be packed in a separate box marked medication cabinet so you can identify them easily should you need them.

Packing Toiletries

When you are sorting through your toiletries, be very particular about what you decide to take with you. Expensive shampoos, conditioners, hair products, and perfumes will probably show up on your keep list. Make sure that the lids on these items are properly tightened and that the bottles or tubes won’t leak. Pack these bottles into zippered plastic bags to keep them safe and stop any possible leakages from damaging your other belongings. Items that you don’t want to take with you but are still in good condition or haven’t been used should be given away or donated. Use small boxes to pack your bathroom essentials.

Toiletry items should be packed separately to your medications and stored in zipped plastic bags that won’t leak. Make sure to use linens, blankets, clothing or other suitable packing materials to pack your glass jars and bottles to prevent them from being damaged during the cross country relocation process. Use towels and mats to line the inside of the box. To make sure that all boxes are not lost in the move place them into a larger box and mark each box appropriately. It is important to know that the last box must not weigh more than 30lbs.
