Here’s How to Weather the Coronavirus Quarantine While Waiting for Your Move

Since the outbreak of coronavirus or COVID-19, the recommended self-isolation has changed so many aspects of our everyday lives. The situation is dire, but we have to figure out how to weather the coronavirus quarantine and make this whole thing go away as quickly as possible. Staying in our homes is the least we can do. That way, we are being responsible, taking care of ourselves and the people from our community, especially the most vulnerable groups.

If you’re up for relocation in the following days or weeks, don’t get discouraged by the ongoing situation. East Coast West Coast movers are providing moving services wherever possible even under these conditions, and we have gone the extra mile to secure the wellbeing of you and your family. And even if unescapable circumstances (such as mandatory restrictions of movement) forced you to postpone your move for a later date, know that we’ve got you covered by offering a cancellation fee waiver.

All being said, it is vital to remember that there is nothing more important to us than your health and the health of your loved ones right now. For those that had to postpone their moves with us, as well as for those that have to spend a certain time in self-isolation until the movers arrive, we’ve prepared a few tips on how to weather the coronavirus at home.

Who Would Expect That Watching the Whole Season of Our Favorite Show Would Mean Being Responsible

Try to look at this situation this way – now, you can do all the things you’ve never had enough time for. Just remember how many times you felt guilty for wanting to waste another hour watching the next episode of your favorite show. Well, now is the time to watch it. And all those books or movies you didn’t know when to read or watch. Again – now you have the time.

These days are not meant to be wasted. Spend them in a way that will make you feel better. It is hard to be in the house all the time, and we are not used to that, especially the younger generations. We are used to the rush, traffic, jobs. But this is the period in which we have to think long-term, and if we want to get back to our regular everyday life soon, we have to spend it the way experts recommend.

Now is the time to act responsibly by staying at home.

A Brief Guide on How to Weather the Coronavirus Quarantine

Even in this situation, a lot of people are working from home. In a way, they can be considered the lucky ones because there are a lot of them still going regularly to work. Even worse, there are those who even lost their jobs due to the ongoing situation. To these other groups of people, we should show tremendous respect and support.

However, for all of us, in this period of the coronavirus outbreak, it’s equally crucial to take care of our mental health by doing things that make us happy and content, such as:

  • Read books
  • Do a home workout
  • Treat yourself with a home spa
  • Take long naps

But, let us remind you not to lose sight of your upcoming move, so use this time to finish some relocation tasks:

  • Go through the inventory list
  • Research reliable moving companies
  • Get rid of the things you’re not taking with you
  • Watch movies

It might seem odd seeing “watch movies” on a list of moving tasks, but in times like these, they can actually be excellent guides for getting to know the city you are moving to.

Let’s say you are relocating to New York. There are so many movies set in the Big Apple that can make you fall in love with it and, despite the current situation, make you look forward to the upcoming relocation to the Big Apple. Let’s take a look at our favorite ones.

Make two lists, one for your special free-time activities, and another to finish some relocating tasks.

Annie Hall (1977)

A film directed by Woody Alen, who is also the leading actor, is a romantic comedy which tells a story about the ups and downs in a relationship between a New York City TV writer and his girlfriend – aspiring singer/actress played by Diane Keaton.  Besides enjoying the acting skills of Allen and Keaton, you will also enjoy seeing parts of NYC, including the Lower East Side and Coney Island.

A romantic comedy starring Woody Allen and Diane Keaton.

Once Upon A Time in America (1984)

Starring Robert De Niro, Once Upon A Time in America is a masterpiece directed by Sergio Leone. The film tells a story about a career-spanning exploration of organized crime. Watch this movie, and you will get to know parts of New York, such as Brooklyn, Dumbo, the Bronx.

One of the best films of Sergio Leone.

Hannah and Her Sisters (1986)

Hannah and Her Sisters is an Academy Award winner for the Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, and for a long time, it was considered the best Woody Allen film. This comedy-drama, which begins and ends with a family Thanksgiving dinner, tells intertwined stories of an extended family. Leading roles were given to Carrie Fisher, Micheal Caine, Barbara Hershey, Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest, Max von Sydow, and, of course, to New York’s neighborhoods – Upper East Side and Midtown Manhattan.

Wall Street (1987)

Starring Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, and Daryl Hannah, Wall Street, a drama film directed and co-written by Oliver Stone, was a big success. The film illustrates a story about the young stockbroker Bux Fox and wealthy, unscrupulous corporate raider Gordon Gekko. The film had a significant influence on inspiring people to start working on Wall Street, and it became the archetypal portrayal of the 1980’s success. Besides Hannah, Sheen, and Douglas, who won the Academy Award for the Best Actor, Slone has given acting roles to NYC’s neighborhoods – Financial District, Times Square, and Central Park.

A fantastic film starring Michel Douglas and Charlie Sheen.

Carlito’s Way (1993)

Carlito’s way is a crime film based on the novels After Hours and Carlito’s way by Judge Edwin Torres. Although it is mainly based on After Hours, to prevent confusing it with Scorsese’s movie with the same title, the director Brian De Palma chose to name the film Carlito’s Way.

Carlito, played by Al Pachino, is a former criminal who wants to escape from his previous lifestyle, but his criminal past does not let him. He ends up being dragged into the same situations that got him imprisoned in the first place. Besides Pachino, Sean Penn, and Ann Miller, New York’s neighborhoods – Astoria, Queens, Harlem, and Greenwich Village were also a part of the movie.

All these films are considered classics. If you have not watched them, we highly recommend that you do. If you did watch them, you could do it again, why not – it’s popcorn time!

Incredible Al Packino as Carlito Brigante.

You Can Prepare for Your Move Even While in Self-Isolation

When you have started to plan your relocation, you have probably noticed that getting organized to move requires a good strategy and excellent time management. Now, considering the current situation, you could check if all tasks regarding the move are done and if there is something else you should do before the upcoming relocation.

Go Through the Inventory List

When making the inventory list, you need to be careful, precise, focused, and it’s a good idea to go through it a few times. We suggest that you open your inventory list, carefully check every room in the house, and make sure that every item you want to move is on the list.

It may come as a surprise, but you might decide to eliminate something from the list. If that happens, make sure that this item does not end up in the trash. If it is functional, you can always consider donating it to someone in need or selling it.

Always Go for a Reliable and Responsible Moving Company

If your specific situation allows and requires you to move in the upcoming period and find the right movers, you should research each one you are interested in. Every reliable moving services provider respects legal regulations and has the necessary licenses. Also, the prices and insurance options can be different from case to case, as well as the quality of the services.

Taking into consideration all these criteria, you will have no problem in picking the right one. If you need packing services as well, make sure that the chosen company provides it.

Additional tip: Have in mind that once the COVID-19 outbreak simmers down, there will be a lot of relocations. Finding the right company will be quite time-consuming and pricey because most of them will be booked. That’s why you should think in advance and contact moving companies during this period, just to be sure what the options are.

Therefore, if you can’t or don’t want to delay your relocation and have to get it over with in the next couple of days, make sure that your chosen movers take all precautionary measures to keep you and your family safe. We’d like to show you some of the measures that we have introduced to make moving as safe as it can be:

  • Cleaning and disinfecting the moving truck and equipment on a daily basis
  • Our movers wear gloves and masks at all times
  • Crew members that are feeling under the weather are required to stay at home
  • Hand sanitizers should be found in all the warehouses and trucks
Even in self-isolation, you can finish some relocation tasks.

Finally, and Most Importantly, Take Care of Yourself, Your Loved Ones, And Stay Updated About the Coronavirus

COVID-19 is an infectious disease that spreads among people through sneezing or coughing. The first cases of coronavirus were registered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Since then, it has spread globally, causing the World Health Organization to declare the outbreak of coronavirus a pandemic.

Symptoms that might indicate that someone is infected are coughing, fever, and shortness of breath. However, the virus is especially dangerous for particular demographic groups, such as the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

How to Protect Yourself

As we’ve said at the beginning of this article, practicing social distancing and avoiding excessive contact with other people is the best thing you can do for yourself, your loved ones, and your community. Here are some other steps you should take to minimize the risk of infection:

  • Wash your hands with water and soap for at least 20 seconds
  • Try not to touch your nose, eyes, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Stay at home if you are sick
  • Use a tissue for covering your mouth when you are coughing or sneezing, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Don’t forget about frequently used objects and surfaces in your household – keep them clean

As you can see, the measures for preventing COVID-19 are simple and straightforward, and the least we can do is implement them in our everyday life. Also, please, stay at your home. That way, you are showing that you are thinking about yourself and the ones you love. Stay safe!
